Frizz Free: You can thank the techie geeks at MIT
Frizzy hair is the bane of my existence. If I don’t have my hair professionally blown dry or get a Brazilian Blowout (I am a huge fan of this BTW), the slightest bit of moisture can ruin my day. I don’t know about you, but I usually don’t have the solid half an hour that it takes to get my hair bone dry, smooth or as straight as I would like it to be, and even using the best and spendiest silicone or dimethicone smoothing products, I still end up with the frizzies, boo hoo
Â
That was my sob story until I recently discovered an innovative new anti-frizz product that has made a world of difference. Let me introduce you to
Straight Making No Frizz Styling Cream  by Living Proof. This inspired velvety cream addresses the two causes of frizz—humidity and friction (rather than masking frizz like other products do). It provides a superior, extremely thin humidity barrier on hair, while reducing surface friction. Â
Â
The secret ingredient that makes all this defuzzing possible is called PolyfluoroEster which is based on an entirely new set of molecules that has not been used in the hair industry. This new product was created by a team of MIT scientists who work outside of the beauty industry which gave them a fresh perspective and allowed them to come up with new solutions to combat frizz, and in my opinion they have done a bang up job.
Â
I am not a cosmetic chemist, but I am a voracious beauty consumer who has tried it all, and all I know is that this stuff really works. After I squeeze out a quarter size dollop of this magic cream and spread it evenly throughout my hair (I use the medium to thick version, but they have a version for fine hair), my hair comes out much sleeker and smoother than it does with other anti-frizz products. And it feels different too, it has a softer smoother feeling texture that I really like. To me, it has that fresh, bouncy ‘I-just-had-my-hair-colored-feeling’ and it looks shinier too. Whatever technology is behind this super smoother, I likee and I think you will too. It’s less than a professional blowdry and it looks almost as good.  Let’s hear it for the nerds!
Â
This just in:  The groundbreaking  innovation of this company is so impressive that they just secured another $9m for further product development. Obviously they are doing something very right!

The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) was in town this past weekend, and this evil queen lovin’ Diva felt right at home. I felt like I was instantly transported to the land of fairytales because I was surrounded by some insanely wicked and inspired creations, all done by students of the make-up craft.Â

Here are some of the best:
Â

 Â
And I had a blast on my hunt for the latest and greatest make-up has to offer. Some of the trends I noticed were that glitter is back with a vengance and there was lots of sparkle to be had; lots of vibrant colors in shadows, liners and mascara. I was particularly fond of the multi-hued assortment offered by LA Splash Cosmetics. And since this was a pro show, there were lots of great tools on hand, like the vast assortment of make-up brushes and some of the best and most affordable tweezers I have seen in a long time (checkout Mark V Tweezers).Â
Â
And since I felt like I was immersed in a fairytale with all the interersting creatures walking around, I decided to have a little fun myself. First, I dabbled in some inspired make-up and face painting by Wolfe Face Art & FX. I asked the artist to paint my face to match my shirt and she came up with this middle eastern inspired creation, it was so cool everyone kept stopping me. What do you think?:
Â

Â
And then, I was completely drawn to the odd-yet-attractive (and quite
inspired) waist whittling, fat sucking, back supporting designs by Rudass of Lady’s Secret. These fashion forward looking corsets feel amazing on and supposedly reduce excess fat, improve posture, and protect your spine. After I squeezed one of these babies on (the tighter the better I was told), I instantly embraced my inner Queen because I felt svelte, sexy, supported, powerful and right at home in this evil and enticing kingdom (or is it Queendom) of IMATS.
Like Buttah. . . .

I am completely obsessed with the new Organic Pink Grapefruit Body Butter created by In Touch Day Spa in Westlake Village, California. I am a citrus girl through and through, and Shannah (the spa owner and mastermind behind this fab product) has gotten the pink grapefruit smell just right–juicy, tart, summery and luscious, it smells so divine I almost want to eat it.
Â
And if the fantastic smell is not enough to hook you, then the luxurious whipped souffle-like texture that instantly penetrates the skin and makes it feel moist and supple might do the trick. Or how about the fact that Shannah has added a Red wine extract (vino in a beauty product, now we are talkin’!), which is a natural antioxidant, to this wonderful creme to put the icing on cake.
Â
Every time I use this body butter, I can’t stop smiling because it is just so damn good, I couldn’t have made a ‘better buttah’ myself!  Trust me, you don’t want to miss this seasonal beauty indulgence either! You can get your super yummy pink grapefruit body butter by calling In Touch Day Spa and when you mention Romy Raves you will receive a complimentary trial size pink grapefruit bath gel as an added bonus.  You go girl, and you can thank me later.
Create your own Avatar–A fun, silly thing to do
Oh, the silly things that we do to waste time in computer land! That’s my Avatar above, don’t you recognize me?? I couldn’t resist the crown and cape, and I totally would buy a dress like this in real life. I had such fun creating this pseudo-likeness of myself, so I thought I would pass it on to my loyal readers. Have fun creating your own cartoon-like self at A Woman’s World and please post your beautiful creations on this blog. I can’t wait to see how HOT you look!
Ever had a Spicy Lime Facial?
Well neither had I until today. Remember Marlene, the amazing esthetician who offers amazing economy busting facials at about $40 (see April 20, 2009 blog post)? Today, I went to see her for my regular monthly facial and she has come up with a wonderfully inspired all organic summer time facial called the Spicy AHA Fruit Pulp Treatment that knocked my socks off!
Â
Being the beauty junkie that I am, I have certainly had my share of facials, but to my delight and surprise, Marlene came up with something really cool and different that even impressed this savvy connoisseur. Let me tell you about it: First, she applies a citrus scented oil to get the skin in the mood; then she applies a fruit pulp peel that gently exfoliates the skin which is shortly followed by my favorite ‘wow’ part of the facial–a stimulating spicy lime masque that totally wakes up the skin, feels very tingly (that’s the cayenne pepper in the masque), and detoxifies and oxygenates skin; while the spicy lime is working its magic, Marlene gives you a relaxing hand and foot massage; next comes the yummy smelling part of this facial, a peach masque that she uses to calm the skin and remove the lime masque. She finishes this refreshing treatment with a calendula serum and a scrumptious apricot moisturizer. Divine!
Â
After the treatment, my skin is slightly flushed and pink because of the stimulating lime, but in a totally healthy looking kinda way, like I just got back from vacation or just had mind blowing sex. And my skin feels really supple, hydrated and happy. Give Marlene a call so you can put on a happy face too, and of course tell her that Romy sent you.
