I recently attended the Natural Products Expo West to scout the latest trends in healthier food and beauty products, and while networking at a blogger reception I met the delightful Heather K. Jones, RD (aka The Diet P.I.) While we got to know one another, I learned that she has worked with some top notch peeps (Hello Bob Greene!), that she is passionate about encouraging people to eat healthier and that she has partnered with HINT Water for a 21 Day Healthy Hydration Challenge to motivate and encourage women to drink less sugary drinks and more water. Well, I personally love the hint of natural fruit flavor in HINT water and was impressed with her perspective, so for the very first time ever I am having a guest post on my blog. Cheers to imbibing more H2O!
You know that drinking sodas and other sugary beverages pack on calories and unneeded sweeteners. But did you know that plain old water can have huge beauty benefits? That’s right, the biggest weapon in your beauty arsenal may be the free liquid that flows from your faucet.
First, water helps control how many calories you consume. The next time you feel hungry, start with a glass of water. You may actually be dehydrated – the body sometimes confuses hunger with thirst. Water can also help reduce bloating – if you’re not drinking enough, your body holds onto excess water, but when you’re adequately hydrated, your cells will release that water.
And simply choosing water over a high-calorie soda or sugary coffee drink can help you quickly shed extra pounds. Just drinking one 20-ounce soda a day (and keep in mind that many restaurants serve drinks in much larger containers) adds an extra 93,440 calories per year – about 26 pounds of extra weight!
Drinking more water also helps rev up your metabolism – especially if you like your water served with ice. Your body has to work to warm the water up, burning a few extra calories in the process.
Water can also improve your skin – fine lines and wrinkles are deeper when you’re dehydrated, and drinking water hydrates skin cells and fattens them up. Water flushes out impurities and improves circulation and blood flow, leaving your skin clear and glowing. Since your hair is made up of cells just like your skin, drinking more water can help your hair gain moisture and softness.
