Last night was the world premiere of the much anticipated Disney Maleficient Movie starring Angelina Jolie, and I was among the select few invited to IMAX Headquarters to get a sneak peek of this truly amazing movie just days before it’s official release on May 30th. Now admittedly, I am obsessed with this genre and especially with all things Maleficent (which might taint my opinion just a bit), but this movie was nothing short of SPECTACULAR – it was all that I thought it would be and so much more! But I will get to my review in a moment, first I would like to tell you a little about the thematic festivities that came before the screening
I invited my favorite partner in crime, on camera Lifestyle & Beauty Guru Stacy Cox to join me because we always have tons of fun. Strike a pose my pretties 🙂
The party atmosphere was dark, magical and sparkly with black and purple hues. I loved the look of this black tree centerpiece dripping with plants and flowers made to resemble the Moors where Maleficent lived.
And the signature cocktails were fun because they represented the light/Aurora Bellini and the dark/Maleficent Martini of the movie
And these butternut squash and cheese lasagna cupcakes were to die for ~ Nom Nom!
MAC Cosmetics was a co-sponsor of this event and they treated us to watching MAC Senior Make-Up Artist, John Stapleton recreate the Maleficent look using MAC’s Limited Edition Maleficent Make-Up Collection = FAB! I was also one of the lucky one’s to win several products from this great collection 🙂
The Maleficent model bore a very close resemblance to Angelina Jolie
And what makes these events even more fun in running into some of my favorite top-of-their-game uber nice beauty blogging babes like adorably pregnant Red Carpet Roxy and Beauty Blogging Trailblazer and sweetheart Nadine Jolie, and I even got to meet their sweet hubbies too!
Now back to the most important matter at hand, WHAT DID I THINK OF MALEFICENT IMAX 3D? I absolutely loved it for so many reasons: It was unbelievably beautiful to watch in IMAX 3D, and while I am not typically a fan of seeing movies in 3D, I truly feel that this state-of-the-art digital technology really enhanced the viewing experience and made me feel like I was a part of the movie, not just a viewer. And I kept marveling at how crisp, luscious and stunning Angelina Jolie looked as Maleficent, she nailed the look and the character. So needless to say I highly rec seeing the movie in IMAX 3D if you can, it makes a world of difference. But hurry, it will only be at IMAX theaters for 1 week beginning May 30th.
Not only was this movie beautiful to watch, the story was also totally captivating and not at all what I was expecting. It tells the tale of how Maleficent turns evil and cold and how she evolves along the way. Her plight is devastating, relatable and engaging, I compare this story to what the story of Wicked meant to the Wizard of Oz is what Maleficent means to Sleeping Beauty. This is the untold story of a misunderstood villainess who is not at all what meets the eye and her journey is entertaining, captivating and riveting. I loved it so much that the movie has been replaying in my mind all day and I cannot wait to see it again! Maleficent was totally worth the year long wait and I give it an A+
