If you are a fan of the iconic Broadway musical ‘Phantom of the Opera’, you are going to be swept up in the captivating sequel ‘Love Never Dies’ now playing at the Hollywood Pantages
Love Never Dies is the captivating and long awaited sequel of the all time favorite classic Broadway musical ‘Phantom of the Opera’ now playing at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. This captivating continuation of the ultimate love story continues ten years after the Phantom disappeared from the opera. The sequel shows us how the Phantom has created a new life for himself in Coney Island, New York as the purveyor of a circus freak show. And while the Phantom is living a new life where he feels like he fits in, he has never stopped yearning for his one true love and musical protégée, Christine Daaé.
I have to admit that the theater buff in me was skeptical about a Phantom sequel. How could this follow-up story possibly hold a candle to one of the most iconic musicals of all time? Truth be told, for the first few scenes of the show I wasn’t riveted or drawn to the show, I was resisting enjoying it because I wanted to show my loyalty to the original. I wondered to myself, ‘Why am I watching Phantom Part 2? ‘ And then suddenly, as the story began to unfold, I understood why the sequel story needed to be told and I was hooked! It was beautiful, enchanting, colorful and I enjoyed every moment of it. I won’t give any more of the plot away, but I will say that if you were a fan of the original like me and got swept up in the transcendent love story, Love Never Dies is a MUST SEE! I think you will truly appreciate seeing how this love story continues to live on.
Not only was the story captivating, but the opera music, compelling songs and haunting set designs of this twisted colorful world of the Freak Show were mesmerizing to watch. The new characters are quirky, odd, eccentric and incredibly intriguing. Opera star Gardar Thor Cortes shines as the man behind the mask, his operatic voice is exquisite! And Meghan Picerno was also a compelling and lovely Christine Daaé; the rest supporting cast was also very talented and entertaining. However besides the Phantom, the trio of the Phantom’s darkly comedic henchmen/eccentric clowns stole the show! It was so fun to watch their antics. What a great night of theater!
‘Love Never Dies’ is playing at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre now through April 22, 2018. Get your tickets HERE
