These Boots Were Made for Walking: KINKY BOOTS Returns to the Pantages for a 2 Week Limited Engagement

Earlier this week, I attended Opening Night of the return of fan favorite KINKY BOOTS at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. This Tony Award Winner for Best Musical in 2013 brings together the talents of four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book) and Grammy Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Tony Award-winner for Best Score for KINKY BOOTS) who together created this fun, lively, modern yet timeless tale that will make you want to put on a fab pair of boots (like I did!), smile, dance and ‘Just Be Who You Wanna Be’!

The story behind KINKY BOOTS was inspired by true events and it centers around Charlie Price, a man who is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue to run his family business in men’s shoes. Because of the changing times, the business is in trouble and help arrives in the most unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous Drag Queen performer who is in need of some sturdy new stilettos. Lola joins Charlie’s business as the new shoe designer and as you can imagine, the fun and challenges ensue from there.

This show is one of those iconic musicals that has a timeless and feel good message that captivates and entertains, no many how many times you see it. This was my second time seeing KINKY BOOTS and it was just as fun and as enjoyable as the first time. The staging, singing and dancing were fantastic as was the entire cast highlighted by Lola (J. Harrison Ghee), Charlie (Adam Kaplan) and Lauren (Tiffany Engen.) However, I think the best thing about this show aside from it being incredibly entertaining is the empowering messages it sprinkles throughout the story that all center around accepting others for who they are and just being yourself no matter what other people think. Those wonderful messages make you feel good and positive minded when you leave this show.

So if you want to have a good time and want your spirits lifted, grab your bestie, your honey or the whole family and run (but be careful in those high heeled boots!) to the Pantages to see KINKY BOOTS during its limited 2 week engagement in Hollywood before it dances off to another city.
