Last week, I attended Opening Night of The Ballad of Johnny and June at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego. Over a week later, I can’t stop thinking about Christopher Ryan Grant’s uncanny portrayal of country music legend Johnny Cash. From the first moment Grant hit the the stage and said ‘Hello everybody, I’m Johnny Cash’, you instantly felt like you were in the presence of the icon himself. From his mannerisms to his stellar voice, Grant eerily channels Johnny Cash and it is captivating to watch.
