If you are looking for a fun, playful, lively, get your hips moving GNO, you won’t want to miss ModRock, an upbeat musical making its World Premiere at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, California now through July 14, 2013. ModRock takes place in London 1965, a time when styles and cultures clashed, the British bands ruled the pop charts and fashion was bold and vibrant. It tells the story of star-crossed lovers from rival “Mod” and “Rocker” factions who are forced to choose between loyalties and their new found love.
Last week, I was invited to enjoy one of the first performances of ModRock, so I grabbed one of my close grilfriends and we headed to NoHo for a memorable night out on the town. We we treated to complimentary NewCastle beer to enjoy during the show (it was the perfect way to set the British tone), and then we got cozy in our seats at this fab local and intimate theater.
The show grabbed my attention right from the start with the fab totally 60’s crisp, colorful Mod fashions juxtaposed next to the black leather, studs and street style of the Rockers. And then there was the fun, iconic music of the era that totally made me want to get up and dance like “For Your Love” and “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and “Time of the Season” and “Downtown.”
As the story unfolded about these two rival groups and the secret love between a ‘Mod’ and a ‘Rocker’, I was happily reminded of some of my all time fav love stories like ‘Grease’ and ‘Westside Story’. However, the British setting, theme, accents and fashions set ModRock apart from those classic shows and it’s a fun, entertaining journey back in time. My girlfriend and I had a smile on our faces the whole time and we both said it was super fun, upbeat and the perfect Girl’s Night Outing.
So grab a girlfriend or two and go see ModRock before it ends on July 14, 2013!!
