AnnieMy fab date for ANNIE was Kim of House of Prince

As many of you know, I am a discerning life long theater buff and am lucky enough to be invited to attend some of the best and brightest theatrical performances in Los Angeles and share my honest reviews with you. Last week, I attended opening night of the new Annie Musical at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, and to my most pleasant surprise, this familiar classic surpassed my expectations and delivered impressive Broadway caliber performances from a cast of newbies and lesser known actors. While the shows at the Pantages are always top notch, enjoyable and entertaining, I can’t help but often think that ‘it’s not quiet a Broadway level performance’, however this revitalized new production of ANNIE  WAS!

This production is a refreshing new incarnation of the iconic original. From newcomer Issie Swickle as an emotionally convincing Annie, to the affable Gilgamesh Taggett as Billionaire Oliver Warbucks, to the stellar charismatic and extremely talented character actors (pictured below from right to left) Lynn Andrews as a campy and believable Miss Hannigan, to Garrett Deagon as a smarmy Rooster Hannigan and Lucy Werner as a ditsy Lily

This performance didn’t miss a beat! It felt fresh, fun and extremely entertaining and the set design was authentic looking and top notch. The show includes all your favorite classic ANNIE songs like “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You,” and “Tomorrow.”

Although I know the story and all the songs by heart, this cast and production were so good that I actually went on the emotional journey of this beloved story as though I was seeing it for the first time. I even marveled at how in the zone all of the ensemble characters were too. I usually feel that this level of talent and nuanced performances are only seen on Broadway, but this LA production and talented cast was totally up to snuff and I LOVED every minute of it!

Even if you have seen ANNIE many times before, I highly recommend taking the whole family to see this fabulous limited engagement of ANNIE at the Hollywood Pantages now through November 1, 2015. You don’t wanna miss it!
