Since I was 16 years old, I have been obsessed with taking care of my skin, so you might say that I consider myself a bit of an expert on what makes your skin look and feel healthy. One of the best compliments that someone can give me is that I have great skin (oh yeah and that I don’t look my age), I take pride in my skin, I work on it daily and it is probably one of my most favorite topics to talk about on my blog. My recent head shot above is a good example of what my skin looks like at 45, and I’m pretty proud of it. Given my passion for skincare, I’m excited to share my thoughts and tips for how to make your skin even more gorgeous.

TOP 5 SIGNS OF HEALTHY SKIN

1)  RADIANT
In my opinion, the number one sign of healthy skin is radiance and luminosity. It’s that ‘lit from within’ quality that you typically see in younger skin and also in well cared for skin. I believe that regularly using an active anti-aging product (like retinol) suited to your skin type and wearing sunscreen every single day rain or shine are two key components to healthier skin.

TIP: A little champagne hued slightly shimmery luminizing product strategically placed on the cheekbones, bridge of your nose, shoulders and decollete can also add that coveted sheen to your skin.

2)  DEWY
This is the look of moisturized, hydrated plump skin. Healthy skin looks refreshed, nourished and supple. Since I have dry skin, it usually takes me two steps to give my skin the right amount of moisture. Typically, I use a hydrating serum (with hyaluronic acid) or a yummy nourishing oil serum first and then a moisturizer followed by an SPF or BB cream.

Tip: A couple drops of a luscious face oil (I’ve been loving Rose Hip Seed Oil lately) rubbed into your skin before applying make-up can give your skin a lovely sheen and the perfect amount of moisture to keep your skin looking dewy, but not greasy.

3)  EVEN-TONED
Healthy skin has an even color and tone, it’s not red, splotchy or covered in brown patches (freckles are fine.) Even-toned skin looks younger, fresher and prettier.

Tip: I rec using a BB or CC Cream because it’s an all-in-one product that lightly covers flaws, evens tone and protects from further damage because most contain an SPF.

4)  SMOOTH TEXTURE
Skin with a smooth soft texture looks gorgeous, fresh and younger. Smooth skin has minimal lumps, bumps or wrinkles and it feels amazing to the touch. Think ‘baby skin’ when you are wondering what a healthy texture looks like.

TIP: I feel that regular exfoliation (1-3x/week) with a scrub, brush or skin friendly acid (or a pro peel on occasion) is the secret to smooth skin and a desirable soft texture.

5) REFINED PORES
Small, almost invisible pores make your skin look beautiful and flawless. Refined pores come from being diligent about thoroughly cleaning your skin on a regular basis and deep cleaning every once in a while.

Tip: I’m a big fan of getting monthly facials with extractions, however using a wonderful detoxifying mask that draws impurities out of your pores will also do the trick.
