Hello, my fabulous theatre lovers! Romy here, fresh from an incredible afternoon at the Ahmanson Theatre, and let me tell you, my heart is practically floating! If you are looking for a big, grand, ridiculously theater outing, The Music Man is serving up all the magic, nostalgia, and feel-good energy we could ever ask for!
At its core, this timeless story is just so wonderfully uplifting. It’s a sweet, classic tale about how enthusiasm, community, and a little bit of unexpected passion can bring pure joy into other people’s lives. In a world that can feel a bit chaotic, stepping into River City is like getting a big, warm hug for your soul!
A Big Grand Musical Extravaganza
This is golden-age, big-stage musical theater done to absolute perfection! The show is packed with beautifully choreographed musical performances that have the whole auditorium buzzing. The entire ensemble is top-notch, and the dancers? Darling, they are out-of-this-world talented! The high-energy routines, crisp execution, and sheer joy radiating from the performers on stage had me grinning from ear to ear.
Stepping Back in Time with Staging & Costumes
I was completely obsessed with the visual feast of this production. The staging and gorgeous period costumes genuinely make you feel like you are stepping back in time to the old glory days of classic Americana. The vibrant colors, lush details, and nostalgic aesthetic are a total feast for the eyes from start to finish!
That Unforgettable Opening Train Scene!
I have to give a special shoutout to one of my absolute favorite moments: the opening train scene (“Rock Island”). It is so clever! The rhythmic, acapella “chugga-chugga” syncopation of the traveling salesmen bouncing in unison on that train car is pure theatrical brilliance. It sets a thrilling, high-energy tone from the second the curtain rises and grabs your attention right out of the gate!

Whether you know every word to “Seventy-Six Trombones” or you’re experiencing it for the very first time, The Music Man at the Ahmanson is an absolute must-see triumph. Grab your friends, bring the family, and treat yourself to a night of pure theatrical bliss! Even your school age children will love it!
