A couple of weeks ago, I attended a fun Mom’s Night Out in Culver City to sip some cocktails and attend an advance screening of Tully (opens May 4, 2018.) This incredibly funny and honest movie portrays a very real, raw emotionally riveting look at motherhood and I was captivated from the very beginning. As an added bonus, right before the movie started we were treated to a quick cameo from the film’s stars Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, and Ron Livingston. Charlize, who is a mother herself said, “Let’s face it, Motherhood is f***kin’ hard!” I couldn’t have said it better myself!

This must-see raw comedy from Academy Award nominated director Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Academy Award winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”) stars Academy Award winner Charlize Theron as Marlo, a mother of three including a newborn, who is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Marlo is resistant and hesitant about accepting this extravagant gift at first, but the overwhelming realities of motherhood finally get the best of her and Marlo finally caves and comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (portrayed by relative newcomer Mackenzie Davis).

I absolutely loved this movie and was swept up in the stellar performances and raw, humorous yet sometimes painful portrayal of motherhood. If you’re a mom, it’s one of those relatable movies that hits close to home, and that’s what makes it so good. Being a mom of teenager, this movie reminded to step back and remember those first few months of motherhood where you are overwhelmed by everything, drained, sleep-deprived and at times you can barely keep your head above water. And for many, this is the time when postpartum depression kicks in. This is essentially what the movie is all about; that feeling of the world caving in on you and the joy and relief that you can feel when when someone is there to help share the burden of this incredibly challenging time with you.

This film takes you on an incredible emotional ride with an unexpected ending and I highly recommend grabbing your best mommy friends and definitely going to see it. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry and it will make you feel the depths, joy and pain of motherhood.

Tully opens in theaters nationwide May 4th, 2018.

I have recently watched “Tully”, and it is one of the best scripts written by the Oscar winner Diablo Cody. It is a movie blend of raw honesty and humor. I want to watch it again.
