Have you ever been to a Korean Spa? It is definitely a bucket list, must do experience! I adore Korean Spas because they are SO wonderfully different than your typical Western spa. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good ole fashion American pampering spa, but Korean Spas are on a whole different level. A visit to a fabulous Korean Spa will transform you! And Wi Spa is a shining example of a modern day Korean Spa and I was beyond impressed with the state of the art facility and the top notch services I received.

Wi Spa is large spacious four level 24/7 state-of-the-art Korean Spa in the heart of Los Angeles (although it was so authentic, I felt like I was in Korea.) Wi is a co-ed family friendly spa that offers a variety of spa treatments, male and female only floors with hot and cold baths and treatments, a full-service restaurant, fitness room, open air terrace, and a bustling family-friendly common area called the ‘Jimjilbang’ which is known as the traditional center of a Korean spa. Here families and friends can gather to have a fresh Korean lunch, use a computer, play in the kids’ zone, peruse the extensive library and comic book collection, hangout on the rooftop terrace or relax in one of the five specialty sauna rooms. Wow! What an impressive place!

What did I LOVE about my visit to Wi Spa? Everything! I loved how modern and chic the women’s floor and locker room are. And I LOVED that they give each visitor a digitally programmed bracelet key that you could use to open your locker (just flash it in front) as well as purchase your lunch, so hip & cool! I loved how vast, clean, modern and tastefully appointed the women’s floor was

I really enjoyed hanging out with my partner in crime Amber of Beauty Junkies Unite (who was a first timer) and taking advantage of the hot and cold baths. I especially loved getting all heated up in the hot bath and then taking a brisk plunge in the cold bath to wake up the senses, so invigorating and grounding!

Remember how I mentioned that Korean Spa’s are transformative, right? Well, once you enter the the women’s treatment floor you can check all modesty at the door because most of the amenities are enjoyed in the buff and it is so liberating that no matter what size or age you are, we are all just women. And even the treatments are performed by technicians who are wearing a black bra and panties, very different than a Western spa.

After doing several rounds of hot and cold plunges and a little sauna, I was starting to really feel relaxed and was ready for my treatment: the BUFF + MASSAGE (70min for $70) This is the signature treatment of most Korean Spas and Wi Spa gets it just right. You disrobe, get on the waterproof table and succumb to a marvelous and thorough head to toe exfoliating treatment that has been practiced in Korea for thousands generations. This intense and amazing scrub utilizes silk exfoliating pads and cloths like these

Which completely scrub every crevice on your body and remove every single dead skin cell, making your skin as soft as a baby’s. This scrub literally gets rid of a layer of unwanted skin and it leaves your skin refreshed and revitalized. After the scrub, you get a lovely oil massage to work out the rest of the kinks. After the massage, the technician applies a yummy freshly made cucumber mask to your face, and while it works it’s magic your hair is shampooed for a finished touch. Korean scrubs and oil massages are more rustic, thorough and healing than its Western counterparts and I adore it!

After our delightful Buff + Massage, we changed into shorts and t-shirts provided by the spa and headed upstairs to the Jimjilbang for a deelish Spicy Noodle lunch (purchased with a scan of my high tech bracelet :-))

Amber and I enjoyed some much needed catch up time before taking part in the final experience of the day: immersing myself in the five signature sauna rooms at Wi Spa which are designed to be experienced in progression in order to detoxify and rejuvenate your body.

First, I tried the Bulgama Sauna which is made mostly out of oak wood, sits at an impressive 231 degrees for deep thermotherapy. The intense heat helps loosen the muscles, remove toxins and bacteria in the body, reduces blood pressure and results in an overall cleansing effect

Next I immersed myself in the Salt Sauna which contains thousand-year-old minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, sodium and selenium to improve the physical, chemical and hydrodynamic conditions of the body. The Salt Sauna purifies the respiratory system, improves circulation, strengthens the immune system and relaxes your muscles. And the large rock salt pieces in the sauna (known as halotherapy/salt therapy) is used for healing for skin conditions. This was one of my favorite saunas because it was so aesthetically pleasing and burying my feet in the salt rocks was very calming

The Clay Sauna features clay that was imported from Korea and has been used for centuries around the world for its medicinal and cosmetic benefits. This natural mud stimulates the lymphatic system and assists in the heavy metal detoxification process. You are invited to immerse your body under layers of clay balls to increase your body temperature

I found the Jade Room hot and healing. Jade eases muscle tension, helps with arthritis, and is known to lower your cerebral temperature. The sodium and minerals within the walls of Jade Spa also help in the balancing of hormones. In the Asian culture, Jade has long been revered for its healing properties and in aiding stress relief. I could use one of these at home on a daily basis 🙂

And my last stop on the Wi Spa sauna tour was the refreshingly unexpected Ice Sauna. This room helps bring your core body temperature down, closes the pores and tightens the skin. By finishing with the Ice Sauna, circulation will improve and overall well-being is restored. I have never been in an Ice Sauna before and felt it truly was the perfect end to my day as a way to wake up and rebalance my body.

With baby soft skin, relaxed muscles and a multi-layered sauna detox, I was beyond relaxed and truly transformed. What a fabulous day, I can’t wait to go back!

Disclosure: Wi Spa invited me to come in for a Buff + Massage & Lunch for editorial consideration but my baby soft skin and bliss are my very own.
