As a discerning and passionate lifetime musical theater lover, Katerina’s portrayal of Fanny was outstanding and reminded me of some the best Broadway performances that I have ever seen! In fact, not only did her performance give me chills, but I also did something that I have never done at any other LA performance (I typically reserve it for the creme de la creme of Broadway shows in NYC). I went to the the stage door after the show to congratulate Katerina and tell her how fabulous she was and how her incredible performance moved me! This is the highest praise of all coming from me!

Additional highlights of the show included country music legend Melissa Manchester’s schticky/vaudevillian portrayal of Mrs. Brice aka Fanny’s overbearing Jewish Mother as well as Stephen Mark Lukas as Nick Arnstein. Stephen was the understudy for Nick on Broadway and with his impressive powerful baritone Broadway voice, I can see why!

Honestly, this production of Funny Girl is one of the best Broadway caliber musicals that I have seen at the Ahmanson Theatre in a long time. It’s fun, uplifting, has fabulous bold song and dance numbers, nostalgia, Jewish schtick and a strong talented memorable cast. Don’t miss your chance to see Funny Girl during it’s Los Angeles run at the Ahmanson Theatre in DTLA now through April 28, 2024. Get your tickets HERE.
