Shining, gleaming, steaming, flaxen, waxen. . . OK, OK so I am a little bit obsessed with the musical Hair. While I was NYC attending all the fab beauty shows that I have been reporting to you about, I was able to see a couple of Broadway shows (FYI next to beauty, theater is my other passion) and Hair was one of them. What a fun show! You literally felt like you were hanging out with the hippies in the 60’s and 70’s in all their drugged out nude glory and it was just fab! And the acting and music were truly superb, the songs keep playing in my mind, thus the inspiration for this post. I highly rec seeing it if you are in NYC, and make sure you go on the stage and dance after the show too.

So given my love for Hair, I thought I would share with you some of my latest and greatest favorite hair styling products that have really impressed this savvy maven. Here’s to your long, beautiful hair 🙂

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging White Truffle Hair Elixir
This is one of the most inspired hair care products that I have come across in a long time. This product turns any hair care or styling product into an intensive reparative treatment that helps heal hair that is damaged, dehydrated and dull and makes it look and feel silky and healthy. You can add it to your shampoo or conditioner, styling products or use it on its own as a leave in treatment.

I would describe this hair elixir as product enhancer or booster that makes your current products even better; it kicks them up a notch and makes them more healing, moisturizing and more like a treatment. And my hair is loving this product. It totally makes my hair healthier, smoother, and less damaged looking (I color it regularly and do Brazilian Straightening so there is a lot of processing going on). I think it is a pretty unique product and I have always been a fan of Alterna’s better for you hair products, especially the caviar line and this is no exception. And I love the fresh floral scent too!

Leonor Greyl Serum De Soie Sublimateur
Leonor Greyl is a beautiful French all natural luxurious hair care line that has been family owned and operated for over 35 years. They use delicate aromas and plant extracts to give hair more brilliance, more glamour and more beauty. Serum De Soie is a wonderfully versatile product that detangles, prevents frizz, protects and nourishes the hair. It contains silk proteins and specially selected plant oils to help smooth and condition your hair without weighing it down.

What I love about this product is that it contains no silicone or dimethicone which are frequently used smoothing ingredients, yet my hair is still smooth and frizz free (its the silk that replaces those chemicals BTW). It smells slightly like jasmine and I use it on damp hair before blow drying and then after as a finishing product, and it is the perfect weight and consistency for my hair. It is definitely more of a prestige hair product, but a little goes a long way, and it is so gentle and nurturing I think its worth it.

Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil
I immediately fell in love with Essence Absolue because it smells divine (it contains the essence of Camellia Oil), it was instantly absorbed into my hair, and made my damaged hair look shiny and healthy by quickly removing all traces of split ends. This multi-use elixir moisturizes and protects your hair with intense nutrition and because it is rapidly absorbed into your hair it re-balances the moisture level of dry hair. It gives my hair a beautiful healthy glow and it even offers some UV protection. This is my new go-to-serum when I am finished styling my hair to give it a polished, smooth, healthy and hydrated look. And although it is another splurge item, your hair will thank you for it.

So if you want to feel ‘Ga-Ga at the Go-Go’ checkout these fab products and let me know, know whatcha think.

  1. I have been using the Shu Essence Absolue for about a year and it has truly transformed my hair. My hair is so long I can sit on it. It’s red in color and it’s as healthy as it’s ever been, knock on wood. This product is expensive at $68 for a 5 oz bottle but the bottle has lasted me one year so as far as I’m concerned, it’s well worth the price for this bottle of liquid gold. This is the best product I have ever used. My hair tends to be dry and especially at this length, one has to be very careful to prevent damage, split ends, etc. My hair literally drinks this oil. I can use a quarter size every day for 3 days in a row, rubbing it in the palms of my hands to heat it up and then run it through the hair from the bottom up, focusing on the ends but not neglecting the scalp and my hair will never look greasy or flat. No product compares to this one. I use it every day and will continue to do forever, unless Shu should stop making it, which I hope will never happen. They also sell this product in a smaller size for $28 so if you’re unsure whether this product will work for you, get yourself a small bottle and I’m sure you’ll have a large bottle in your home in no time at all.

  2. Wow, girl! You really know your stuff!!!

  3. These products sound great. I saw Hair in the 80’s and it was a funny thing to have the 60’s portrayed like that. I have always had great hair but depending on where I lived it was either drier or smooth and silky. I could use the smooth and silky in Texas. Happy SITS day!

  4. Thanks for the reminder that sometimes we need to do more than just wash and condition. 🙂

    Happy FB SITS day!

  6. Thanks for sharing these reviews. I have long hair and it always looks great for about 2 weeks after I leave the salon, then starts to look less than gorgeous. I think I’ll see if I can get my hands on some of these and give them a try.

  7. Oooh! I love the Shu Uemura oil! I can’t afford it for everyday use but my stylist puts it in every time I visit the salon and my hair feels so nice for days! Maybe I can beg for my birthday 😉

    Happy SITS day!!
