We are smack dab in the middle of the Jewish Holiday season and along with that comes all the yummy sweet and savory morsels that accompany the season. Sweets are an especially symbolic way to kick off a ‘Sweet New Year’ and nothing feels more yummy or comforting to me than Mandel Bread (which is kinda like the Jewish version of biscotti.) I have been making my Aunt Naomi’s famous Mandel Bread recipe for my annual Break-the-Fast for years and that’s why I was delighted to host a special seasonal and yummy giveaway from Papa Ben’s Kitchen.
Papa Ben’s Kitchen, is a family owned and operated company known for its savory, crunchy and crispy, twice-baked Mandelbroyt (aka Mandelbread or Almond Bread.) This tasty treat comes in five yummilicious flavors (Original Family Recipe, Minty Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Espresso Bean, Lemon Blueberry with Poppy Seeds & Spicy Chipotle with Ginger and Dark Chocolate), is all natural, low in sugar and clocks in at only 80 calories each making it a satisfying and healthy treat. Besides the fact that they offer delicious products, I also partnered with Papa Ben’s because I adore both the story and that a portion of the proceeds are donated to a relevant cause. Let me share this heart warming story.
Papa Ben was born in Krakow, Poland in 1928. His father, Lazar owned a chocolate company famous for their chocolate covered wafer cookies. Lazar shared his love of baking with his son, and during family holidays they made Mandelbroyt, which delighted the entire family and soon became the family tradition for special occasions. His father’s passion for baking, allowed the family to survive outside the ghettos for a portion of the war. After surviving the war, Ben moved to America to embrace a new country and the opportunities that lay before him. He had a successful career in real estate, got married, had children and then came inquisitive grand children who wanted to know the family history. This allowed holocaust survivor, Ben to rediscover his long lost passion for baking and heal the wounds of the past by sharing his best memories of his childhood especially the secret family Mandelbroyt recipe. Thus Papa Ben’s Kitchen Mandelbroyt was born!
In addition to sharing his lineage, Papa Ben is also dedicated to the remembrance of the Holocaust. As a Holocaust survivor himself, Ben Lesser founded the Zachor Holocaust Foundation, a non-profit organization, that supports the Holocaust education, remembrance and tolerance of all and for all people. As part of the on-going commitment to the cause, a percentage of profits from Papa Ben’s Kitchen Mandelbroyt sales will be donated to The Zachor Foundation.

Holiday Tradition on my husbands side of the family every year we have a Cookie Exchange all the Cousins will do theirs and aunts, etc. It’s really fun and you get to taste all the homemade cookies that everyone made. I look forward to that every year.
We used to listen to the radio on Christmas eve to find out where Santa was. We were always too excited to fall asleep though we tried really hard.
We have a small family but we get together for all of the holidays. I usually cook the traditional food, but my family brings the unusual dishes.
