I am over the moon about writing this blog post today. Sharing my beauty secrets is probably one of my absolute most favorite subjects to write about. Why you ask? Well, having been an obsessed beauty junkie for most of my life because beauty has always made me feel better about myself, sharing my beauty tips, suggestions and secrets is truly the reason I started this blog to begin with. I believe that the right beauty product used at the right time can turn someone’s whole world around, not to mention their face!
So now I’ll give you a sneak peek behind Oz’s curtain. I’ll share my beauty regimen and recommendations of how I take care of my skin in my forties as well as what I have done leading up to this point:
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A FACIAL It all began at age 16. This is when I had my very first facial, and I can vividly remember the experience and all the wonderful smells to this very day. It was the most fabulous deep cleansing European style aromatherapy facial that totally transformed my skin and senses and I have been hooked ever since. Truth be told, more or less almost every month since I was sixteen years old, I have been getting regular facials and think it has made a world of difference in my skin. I prefer this deep pore cleansing type of facial because it rids my skin of toxins and dirt and makes my skin look refreshed and luminous.
USE A SERUM EVERYDAY: THEY ARE ANTI-AGING POWERHOUSE’S I started using serums as a teen and even back then I noticed how quickly they penetrated my skin and delivered noticeable results. Now, fast forward almost thirty years later and I use at least one serum every single night. I always use serums that have at least one gold standard/proven anti-aging ingredient like Retinol, Peptides, AHA/Glycolic/Lactic Acid, Stem Cells, Growth Factors or a skin lightening ingredient like hydroquinone because they deliver the most potent dose of anti-aging ingredients and noticeable results.
EXFOLIATE REGULARLY: DEAD SKIN MAKES YOUR SKIN LOOK OLD & TIRED Whether you use a physical scrub, an electronic brush, an at home peel or a professional chemical peel, any of these will do wonders for your skin. As a teen, I used the apricot seed scrub that I got from the drug store, and as a forty-something beauty blogger I tend to love combo scrubs that deliver both a physical exfoliant and an enzyme/fruit acid peel in one product or an occasional chem peel. Regardless of the product or method, gently removing dead skin refreshes and rejuvenates your skin and does wonders for your complexion at any age.
WEAR SPF EVERYDAY, EVEN IF IT’S RAINING I must confess, I recently found out that my Vitamin D levels were low and starting taking a supplement. It’s a good problem as a result of my diligence with daily sunscreen. Now this was not the case when I was in my teens and twenties, back then I worshiped the sun and coveted a deep bronze glow. During my younger days, I rarely wore sunscreen and even visited tanning beds, but as a forty year old who wants to preserve her youthful glow, I wear SPF everyday without exception. I love multipurpose products like Olay’s CC Cream that offer a nice daily SPF 15 and also cover and correct age related flaws.
A LITTLE BOTOX NEVER HURT: EVERYTHING IN MODERATION Botox and fillers weren’t around when I was a kid, but now they are widely available and used by many women to help them look more youthful and refreshed. And I am here to tell you that a smidgen of Botox or Juvederm skillfully injected by an expert can make a world of difference in how you look and feel. It’s the over filled, over injected real housewives types that give this brilliant modern anti-aging tool a bad name.
LASH EXTENSIONS: MY SECRET TO LOOKING REFRESHED EVERYDAY Last but not least is my high maintenance guilty pleasure: Lash Extensions. I was all about several coats of mascara as a young woman, but now as a multi-tasking, forty year old mom who stays up way too late and never gets enough sleep, lash extensions are my secret weapon. Every morning I wake up looking awake and well rested, and dare I say pretty with little to no make-up. I owe it all to my lashes.
Here’s what I look like at 45 thanks to following my Beauty Secrets shared above
Looking Good, don’t ya think? 😉 (I’m with my bestie Ingrid, who is also gorg & forty-ish)

You look FAB Romy! Yes, I agree, daily sunscreen is a must. I’m (ahem) forty-something too and think I look pretty good as well. My biggest secret is that I never (and I mean NEVER) go to bed without washing my face and moisturizing, even if I’m dead tired or didn’t wear any make-up that day.
This looks like a great blog. I look forward to more tips!
