Langham CollageA few weeks ago, I was delighted to be invited to attend the Grand Opening Celebration of Chuan Spa and to spend the night at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena and then try out a couple of the new spa services the next day. I have lived in LA most of my life and have never had the opportunity to visit this stunning property, so this was an extra special treat.

The entire property is nothing short of spectacular with sprawling grounds (23 acres to be exact) hidden in an upscale neighborhood of Pasadena, it’s timeless luxury at it’s finest. And the newly remodeled Chuan Spa fits beautifully into this gorgeous property. The Grand Opening was classy and lovely with it’s pink carpet, well dressed crowd, tasty morsels and flowing champagne. During the event, we had the opportunity to tour the spa, sample treatments and mingle. I had a fabulous time spending the evening with my fav social media ladies (in the photo above, top left Mary Zavaglia & Mary Hall of The Recessionista and bottom right Stacy Cox)

After a fabulous evening, we were invited to spend the evening in a beautifully appointed Club Suite room which also gives you access to the Club Lounge that offers wonderful meals, treats and beverages throughout the day. We were greeted with this lovely welcome amenity in our room

Langham Welcome

The suite was spacious, comfortable and well appointed and Stacy and I immediately felt right at home. And the service and attentiveness of the staff was top notch

The Club Lounge was an absolute treat, quite possibly one of the best that I have ever encountered! They offer a variety of different menus and treats throughout the day and not only was the food delicious, but the presentation was gorgeous too.

They even offered delicious sushi in the lounge and an impressive glass of rose champagne. I felt right at home!

The beds were heavenly and after a relaxing night of sleep we enjoyed breakfast and mingling with the senior hotel staff, pr team, the international Chuan Spa consultants and other members of the media.

While all of this was divine, they saved the best for last: Spending the afternoon being pampered in the newly renovated Chuan Spa. The Spa features 12 treatment rooms including a couple’s suite and VIP suite, locker facilities with showers, sauna, herbal steam and whirlpool, a fitness center and full service salon. The signature treatments are inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine and cutting-edge skin care technology such as HydraFacial MD® and Mistral LHE. Product lines including Kerstin Florian, PRIORI®, ZIRH and Deborah Lippmann have created custom services that can only be found at Chuan Spa.

Upon arrival at the spa, you immediately notice the Asian design influences and zen vibe and instantly feel calmer and more at ease. You begin your visit by taking a brief survey to identify your element of the day which will then guide the focus of your treatments. I was identified as FIRE so I received a card describing the attributes of that element (for me to take home) and during my treatment an oil was used to balance my fire energy and after I was given a tea to help balance this element. I thought this was an intriguing and unique touch.

Hot stones are used in the massage to increase your body’s circulation and assist in removing toxin’s and cold stones are used on the lower back to decrease internal heat, assist in injury recovery and increase mental alertness. I found this massage both relaxing and invigorating and felt incredibly rejuvenated afterwards. I also loved the post treatment Dream Room, where your therapist takes you to bask in the afterglow of your spa treatment on a warm semi-private waterbed in a peacefully quiet room. Nirvana!

The other treatment that I experienced was the Kerstin Florian Chuan Yu Facial which incorporates an Ancient Gua Sha technique to stimulate your meridians and increase flow and circulation. After cleansing and extractions, the most unique part of this facial is a rejuvenating facial massage that utilizes Jade stones to heal and revitalize your skin. As the final step, the therapist adheres several tiny pieces of Jade to your ear that stay in place for several days in order to continue to heal and balance you.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my staycation at the Langham Pasadena and being spoiled at the new Chuan Spa. I highly rec visiting this hidden enclave for a taste of old world charm and stellar service tucked away in our own backyard.

Disclosure: I was invited to the Langham for the opening, an overnight stay and spa treatments for editorial consideration, but all opinions and state of serenity are my own.
