Lempicka is a riveting new musical about a trailblazing artist who lives her authentic life decades ahead of her time
This past weekend I attending the opening night of Lempicka, an exciting and riveting new musical that boldly explores the contradictions of a world in crisis, a woman ahead of her era, and an artist whose time has finally come.
This Broadway-bound musical centers around Tamara de Lempicka a renowned art deco painter from the 1920’s who was lauded both for her famed hypnotic portraits of jazz era society and for her unapologetic, daring lifestyle. Tamara, immigrates from Russia to Paris during the roaring twenties and uses her passion and god-given talent as an artist to claw her way from penniless refugee to in-demand portraitist and one of the top artists of the era.
Her world is upended when she meets Rafaela, a free spirit from the city slums, who introduces Tamara to a new world of decadence and passion. Torn between her new muse and her husband, and fighting to leave her mark on an ever-changing world, Tamara must discover the depths of her own strength to survive.
Lempicka is a visually stunning pop-infused musical featuring a powerhouse cast lead by major Broadway talent Eden Espinoza. It is a haunting and memorable story about a trailblazing woman who defies her roots and social norms of the time and lives her life on her own terms during a time went in wasn’t in favor to do so.
I found Lempicka memerizing and one of the most refreshing musicals that I have seen in a long time. The musical was powerful and memorable and I forsee Tony Awards in its’ future. Make sure to see Lempicka now through July 24, 2022 for an incredible theater-going experience.
